Counsel #6 — Jesus’ Endorsement

Picture: Counsel #6 — Jesus’ Endorsement CCW 106.1

Jesus made several statements (ex.: Matthew 5:17, 18; 16, 17; 15:3; John 10:3; Hebrews 8:6-13) expressing confidence in the Bible that He used during His earthly ministry, which included the Torah or Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament), the Prophets (Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the twelve minor prophets) and the Writings (comprising Ruth, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon and Lamentations.) He quoted from the Old Testament often and showed trust in its authenticity.[163] CCW 106.2

“Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’” Luke 24:44 NKJV CCW 106.3

“He [Christ] pointed to the Scriptures as of unquestionable authority, and we should do the same. The Bible is to be presented as the word of the infinite God, as the end of all controversy and the foundation of all faith.” Ellen White in Christ’s Object Lessons, pp. 39, 40 CCW 106.4

Reflect: Do you think Jesus’ endorsement of the Bible should be the last word on its authenticity? Why or why not? CCW 106.5
