Counsel #2 — Sleep Is Restorative

Picture: Counsel #2 — Sleep Is Restorative CWe 109.1

One of the most prominent benefits of sleep is its restorative nature. During sleep, our bodies enter a state of repair. Physiological processes kick in, promoting tissue growth and cellular renewal. Muscle breakdown is minimized, while the body releases hormones that are essential for growth and development, particularly in children and adolescents. Furthermore, sleep strengthens the immune system, bolstering our body's defenses against illness and infection.[120] CWe 109.2

"I’ll refresh tired bodies; I’ll restore tired souls. Just then I woke up and looked around—what a pleasant and satisfying sleep!” Jeremiah 31:25, 26 MSG CWe 109.3

“The majority of pleasure lovers attend the fashionable night gatherings, and spend in exciting amusements the hours God has given them for quiet rest and sleep in order to invigorate the body.…They are robbing the cheeks of the glow of health... Would it not be better, therefore, to break up this habit of turning night into day, and the fresh hours of morning into night? If the youth would form habits of regularity and order they would improve in health, in spirits, in memory, and in disposition.” Ellen White in My Life Today, p. 143 CWe 109.4

Reflect: Do you prioritize getting enough sleep for optimal restoration, or do other commitments often take precedence? CWe 109.5
