Counsel #25 — Healthy Balance

A balanced home life requires managing work responsibilities without neglecting family relationships and personal well-being. Without having clear boundaries, work deadlines and responsibilities can quickly consume time meant for rest, spiritual growth, and connection with loved ones—leading to burnout and strained relationships. CWe 254.2
One practical step that can be considered is setting designated hours and creating a separate space to keep work from interfering with family time. Turning off phone notifications during dinner, scheduling breaks, and prioritizing quality time for group activities like a movie night also help maintain balance. When thinking about this spiritually, God values rest and renewal. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Prioritizing balance strengthens families, promotes inner peace, and ensures that both work responsibilities and family life can flourish with minimal clashing.[288] CWe 254.3
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3 NIV CWe 254.4
“All the powers of the mind should be called into use and developed in order for men and women to have well-balanced minds.” Ellen White in Counsels on Health , p. 179 CWe 254.5
Reflect: What is one specific change you can make in your daily routine to better separate work from family time and personal rest? How can you ensure this routine stays consistent despite demanding responsibilities? CWe 254.6
