Counsel #18 — Gratitude Wins

Picture: Counsel #18 — Gratitude Wins CWe 247.1

The attitude we cultivate in our home — whether grumbling or gratitude — shapes the overall atmosphere of our living environment. If we promote a response of constant complaining whenever something doesn’t go our way, everyone watching us will follow suit, creating a ricochet effect of unappreciation. CWe 247.2

Complaining about chores, finances, or daily inconveniences can quickly drain joy from family life, spreading frustration, discontent, and negativity throughout every component of the home. Over time, this bad habit can lead to resentment and a lack of appreciation for members of the family — something God never intended for the home of any believer. If you have a habit of complaining, try looking at things with a spirit of gratitude. When thankfulness is expressed, whether for food or financial stability, it teaches a model children can follow and constantly put into practice. A grateful heart transforms a house into a home filled with joy, contentment, and unity — traits that are always pleasing to the Lord![280] CWe 247.3

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV CWe 247.4

“The hearts of those who reveal the attributes of Christ glow with divine love. They are imbued with the spirit of gratitude…” Ellen White in My Life Today , p. 170 CWe 247.5

Reflect: How does your attitude affect the atmosphere of your home? What changes can be made to cultivate a spirit of thankfulness? CWe 247.6
