Counsel of Spiritual Life
Counsel #5 — Prayer
Picture: Counsel #5 — Prayer CSL 87.1
Prayer is truly the breath and strength of our spiritual life. Not only does prayer provide support, but it is also the source of spiritual power. Pray often! Pray about everything! The more you pray with a sincere desire to know and experience God, the closer you will be drawn into a sacred nearness to heaven. The dark experiences in your life will be illuminated by Jesus’ presence and your discouragement dispelled as you take time to pray and listen for God’s supporting voice. If you take time to pray, God will take time to listen![86] CSL 87.2
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.” Philippians 4:6, 7 CSL 87.3
“Prayer is the breath of the soul. It is the secret of spiritual power. No other means of grace can be substituted, and the health of the soul be preserved. Prayer brings the heart into immediate contact with the Well-spring of life, and strengthens the sinew and muscle of the religious experience.” Ellen White in In Heavenly Places, p. 83.5 CSL 87.4
Reflect: Are your prayers hurried or even non-existent, or do you take time in God’s presence to hear His voice? CSL 87.5
