Finding a relationship online is extremely common nowadays. However, navigating virtual relationships requires discernment, caution, and prayerful consideration. The most important consideration is if your potential dating partner shares your biblical perspective. Seventh-day Adventists could use something like ChristianCafe.com, a website with a Seventh-day Adventist singles section, as well as a section for Black Seventh-day Adventist singles.15 CR 119.2
Take the time to get to know someone beyond their profile, as many people post fake pictures that don’t resemble at all what they look like in real life. Make sure to look out for red flags, such as inconsistent communication, reluctance to meet in person, or refusal to share personal details. Scammers and individuals with harmful intentions prey on individuals looking for love online, so trust your instincts if something seems off. From a godly perspective, approach online dating with patience, integrity, and clear boundaries. Never portray yourself to be okay with things your morals and values don’t align with. As always, pray for wisdom in discerning a potential partner's character and intentions, prioritizing values like honesty, respect, and a shared faith.16 CR 119.3
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1 NIV CR 119.4
“The words of men, however great they may be, are not able to make us perfect, to thoroughly furnish unto all good works.” Ellen White in Ye Shall Receive Power, p. 104 CR 119.5
