Counsel #10 — Do Your Part

Picture: Counsel #10 — Do Your Part CR 12.1

Have you ever worked on a group project with someone who didn’t do their part? If so, how did you feel doing all the work while allowing the slacker to still get credit for the project? Unfortunately, many people today, especially students, get stuck in this situation when asked to work in a collaborative environment. Whenever you’re a part of a team, it’s important to realize that everyone has a role to play. When one person slacks off and leaves everyone else to pick up the pieces, it leads to conflict and frustration within the group. Not only is this unfair, but it also prevents the project from running smoothly, leading to a decreased chance of receiving a passing grade. CR 12.2

According to the Bible, God encourages diligence and integrity in our work. He expects us to meet deadlines, communicate openly, and give our best effort in everything we do. Each member of a team or group should always support each other and commit to the process until the end, ensuring the best final result.3 CR 12.3

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…” Colossians 3:23 NIV CR 12.4

“Clothe yourself with the whole armor of Christ's righteousness.... And, having done all you can do on your part, you have the assurance of victory.” Ellen White in My Life Today, p. 311 CR 12.5

Reflect: How can you be a more reliable team member? CR 12.6
