Counsel #26 — SOCIAL Anxiety

Picture: Counsel #26 — SOCIAL Anxiety CR 57.1

If you’re battling with social anxiety, you’re not alone. Although most won’t admit they struggle in this area, God sees that fear and He doesn’t ask you to pretend it’s not there. Instead, He invites you to bring it to Him honestly, trusting that He can help you grow through it. Start by talking to God about your anxiety. Tell Him when your heart races or when your thoughts spiral, then ask for His peace and assurance to get you through each episode. CR 57.2

Behavioral techniques like deep breathing before entering a group, rehearsing positive self-talk, and setting small goals like staying for 10 minutes at a social gathering can make a big difference over time. Journaling social wins, no matter how small, helps build confidence too. The key here is to start with low-pressure settings, like hanging out with one or two trusted friends. Practice simple greetings like “Hi, how’s your day going?” or asking someone about their interests. These small actions will slowly retrain your brain to feel safer in social situations. With God’s help, you can get through anything.[57] CR 57.3

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV CR 57.4
