Counsels on Relationships
Counsel #24 — Finding Balance
Picture: Counsel #24 — Finding Balance CR 55.1
Socializing is a good thing, but like with anything, it needs balance. As a young adult, it’s easy to go from one extreme to the other. Maybe you’re someone who rarely hangs out with others, staying isolated because you’re overwhelmed, tired, or just used to being alone. Or maybe you’re always around people, constantly at events, talking, posting, and hanging out. CR 55.2
Doing these things aren’t bad, but being consumed by a social life means neglecting other important areas of your life like sleep, school, work, or quiet time with God. Connecting with others is important for your mental, emotional, and spiritual health, but it should never come at the cost of your priorities, or your relationship with God.[55] As believers, we’re called to be responsible with our time, intentional with our energy, and thoughtful about the people and places we engage with. Ask yourself: How am I really spending my 24 hours each day? God wants you to enjoy people, but He also calls you to grow. A healthy social life isn’t about being everywhere or with everyone - it’s about being present where and when it matters. CR 55.3
