Counsel #21 — Socializing for Health
Picture: Counsel #21 — Socializing for Health CR 52.1
You might not realize it but spending time with people you care about is one of the healthiest things you can do. Socializing isn’t just about having fun or passing time. It actually improves your mental, emotional, physical, and even spiritual health. Hanging out with friends, talking with someone who understands, laughing together, or just being around people who uplift you can help reduce stress, ease feelings of depression or anxiety, and boost your overall mood. CR 52.2
Research even shows that meaningful social connection may lower your risk of serious health issues like high blood pressure and dementia. When you’re connected to others, your brain stays more active, and your overall body feels more energized. Spending time with people who encourage your faith also helps you grow closer to God, directly benefitting your spiritual and mental health. When you pray together, or even just talk about real life from a spiritual perspective, it strengthens your friendships and your walk with Christ. Don’t underestimate the power of social connection. Taking the time to be with people who care and challenge you to grow is more than a fun time - it’s healing.[52] CR 52.3
