Counsel #11 — Community in Christ

Picture: Counsel #11 — Community in Christ CR 42.1

One of the most rewarding ways to build friendships is to make a difference together. Making an impact while spending time with a friend can be a pretty special experience. If you and your friends have had the idea to do community outreach together, but don’t know where to begin, some of the best places to start are organizations.[41] CR 42.2

Think about volunteering with organizations like Adventist Community Services (ACS),[42] or helping out at a Red Cross blood drive. You could even join an initiative that builds homes for families in need or assist with a health seminar that teaches others how to live well. These are real, hands-on opportunities that impact lives, which in turn provide a feeling of fulfillment and contentment. Even small acts, like delivering groceries to elderly neighbors or helping keep your neighborhood clean through a local recycling or highway beautification project, can open the door to community, conversation, and connection. Plus, serving together will also help you grow individually. You’ll grow more compassionate, responsible, and become a better team player, all while reflecting Christ’s love to those around you. CR 42.3

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 NIV CR 42.4

“Those who live useless, selfish lives are miserable.” Ellen White in To Be Like Jesus, p. 72 CR 42.5
