Matthew 4

Then was Jesus led (Mark 1:12; Luke 4:1) up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted (Mark 1:13; Luke 4:2; Hebrews 4:15) of the devil.

And when he had fasted forty (Exodus 34:28; 1 Kings 19:8) days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command (Luke 4:3) that these stones be made bread.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man (Deuteronomy 8:3; Luke 4:4) shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.Deuteronomy 8:3

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle (Luke 4:9) of the temple,

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall (Psalms 91:11; Luke 4:10) give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.Psalms 91:11

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou (Deuteronomy 6:16; Luke 4:12) shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.Deuteronomy 6:16

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, (Matthew 16:26; 1 John 2:15) and the glory of them;

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou (Deuteronomy 6:13; Deuteronomy 10:20; Luke 4:8) shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.Deuteronomy 6:13

Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels (Matthew 26:53; Luke 22:43) came and ministered unto him.

Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; (Mark 1:14; Luke 4:14; John 4:43)

And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, (Matthew 9:1; Matthew 11:23; Mark 1:21; Mark 2:1; Luke 4:23; Luke 4:31; John 2:12) which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

The land (Isaiah 9:1) of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;Isaiah 9:1

The people (Isaiah 9:2; Isaiah 42:7; Isaiah 60:1; Luke 2:32; Ephesians 5:14) which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.Isaiah 9:2

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 3:2; Matthew 4:23; Matthew 6:10; Matthew 10:7; Matthew 12:28; Luke 10:9; Luke 11:20; Luke 21:31) of heaven is at hand.

And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon (Mark 1:16; Luke 5:2; John 1:40) called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

And he saith unto them, Follow (Mark 1:17; Luke 5:10) me, and I will make you fishers of men.

And they straightway left (Matthew 4:22; Matthew 19:27; Mark 1:18; Mark 1:20; Mark 10:28; Luke 5:11; Luke 18:28) their nets, and followed him.

And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, (Matthew 10:2; Matthew 20:20; Matthew 26:37; Mark 1:19; Mark 10:35) and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

And they immediately left (Matthew 4:20; Matthew 19:27; Mark 1:18; Mark 1:20; Mark 10:28; Luke 5:11; Luke 18:28) the ship and their father, and followed him.

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 3:2; Matthew 4:17; Matthew 6:10; Matthew 10:7; Matthew 12:28; Luke 10:9; Luke 11:20; Luke 21:31) and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed (Matthew 9:35; Mark 1:34) them.

And there followed him great multitudes (Mark 3:7) of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
