第14章 禁食
禁 食

对于基督,如同对于伊甸园中那对圣洁夫妇的一样,第一个大试探乃是以食欲为出发点。破坏从何处开始,救赎我们的工作也必从何处开始。亚当既因放纵食欲而堕落,基督就必须借着克服食欲而得胜。“祂禁食四十昼夜,后来就饿了。那试探人的进前来,对祂说:你若是上帝的儿子,可以吩咐这些石头变成食物。耶稣却回答说:经上记着说,‘人活着,不是单靠食物,乃是靠上帝口里所出的一切话。’”

从亚当的日子直到基督的时代,因着自我放纵,食欲和情欲的力量不断加强,直至几乎完全控制了人类。于是世人就败坏多病, 靠着自己无法得胜。基督借着忍受最严峻的考验为人类取得了胜利。祂为我们的缘故运用了自制之力,比饥饿或死亡更为坚强。这第一场的胜利也涉及我们与黑暗势力作斗争时的一切其他问题。

耶稣进入旷野的时候被天父的荣光所笼罩。祂全神贯注于与上帝的交通,便超脱了肉体的软弱。但后来荣光消退了,就留下祂与试探搏斗。试探时时向祂进逼。祂的血肉之体实在不愿去应付前面的斗争。祂禁食祷告四十天之久,因饥饿而软弱憔悴,因精神痛苦而削瘦枯槁。“祂的面貌比别人憔悴,祂的形容比世人枯槁”(赛52:14)。现在正是撒但的机会。他以为可以战胜基督了。

基督曾在食欲这方面受过试探。祂为人类的缘故抵挡试探几乎达六周之久。祂在旷野的长久禁食,乃是给历代堕落人类的一个好教训。基督未被仇敌的强烈试探所胜,这使每位现今正与试探抗争的人得到鼓励。基督使每一个人都能抵挡试探。凡愿敬虔度日的人, 都可借着羔羊的血和自己所见证的道,胜过试探像基督胜过了试探一样。救主的长时间禁食,加强了祂忍受的能力。祂向人类表明自己是在人类当初堕落之处,也就是口腹之欲这方面,开始其得胜的工作。

那具有神性力量的人类救主,尚且觉得有祷告的需要。我们这软弱有罪必死的世人,更当如何觉得需要祈祷──需要热切的、不断的祈祷啊!基督在受最强烈的试探之时,禁食并把自己交托给上帝,借着迫切祈祷及完全顺从祂父的旨意,而终为得胜者。凡自称相信末世真理,而超乎一般口头基督徒之上的人,都应当在祷告上效法这伟大的模范。

世界的救赎主深知放纵食欲会使人体力虚弱,感官麻木,以致不能明辨圣洁永生的事物。基督知道世人暴食暴饮;这种放纵的生活, 败坏了道德力,对人类有很大的影响。为打破这种势力,上帝的圣 子为世人禁食约达六周之久。基督徒若要像基督那样得胜,摆在他 面前的,是何等艰巨的工作!放纵败坏的食欲,这种试探的强烈, 只能从基督在旷野长期禁食的难言苦痛上,得以测度。

K 弟兄不用费很大气力去查明真理,因为上帝所拣选的人已将现成的论据摆在他面前,清楚,明白而且令人信服。现代真理的难 点已经被少数献身圣工的人认真努力研究出来了。他们通过禁食和 热切地向上帝祈祷,已经使主向他们的悟性开启了祂真理的宝藏。有时必须面对面对付狡猾的对手和自夸的歌利亚,但更多的时候是 要用笔来对付。撒但鼓动人们进行猛烈的反对,要蒙蔽人们的眼, 使他们的悟性昏昧。少数关心上帝的真理和圣工的人应激而起捍卫 真理。他们不谋求自己的安逸,而是甘愿为真理的缘故冒生命的危险。

在上帝的安排之下,到了一个时期,世人就要在该时代的真理上经受试验,圣灵要激动人心去查考圣经,甚至于禁食祷告,直到各个环节都找出来,连成一根完整的真理之链。

那些放纵食欲,吃惯了肉食、调味浓烈的肉汁,及各种丰腻的 糕饼糖果之类的人们,对于简单健康而营养的饮食,是不能马上有 胃口的。他们的口味十分反常,以致对于水果、平常的面包,及蔬 菜之类的健康食品,没有食欲。他们不必指望自己一开始就会喜爱 与他们素常放任自己去吃的东西非常不同的食物。如果他们在开始 时不喜欢吃平常的食物,就当禁食,直到对之发生兴趣。这种禁食 对于他们会比药物更有益处,因为那曾被滥用的胃会得到久已需要 的休息。而且这种真实的饥饿,会因一餐平常的饮食得到满足。要 经过一段时间,才能使口味从所受的虐待恢复天然。人若能在饮食 上克己自制,持之以恒,不久后就会觉得平常而健康的食物十分可口, 而且很快就会吃得津津有味,比那些丰腻的珍馐美味更感满足。

吃得太多,太勤,会使消化器官疲劳,而使身体处在兴奋状态, 血液变成不洁,接着各种疾病发生了。请来了医生开了药,虽然解 除了痛苦却治不了病。药物可能治了表面,可是真正的危害却增加 了十倍。自然正在尽力排除身体中积累的杂质,如果让她自行工作, 辅助以上天所赐普遍的福惠,如清洁的空气和纯净的水,就能迅速而安全地达到治疗的效果。

得了上述病症的人,能为自己做成别人所不能做得那么好的工作。他们应当着手解除强加于自然身上的重担,他们应当消除病因。短期禁食,让胃有休息的机会。借着小心而聪明地运用水疗法,使身体减低热度,这些努力都会帮助自然机能清除身体的杂质。

有些人如果在一周之中节食一两天,则所得的效益,较比任何治疗或延医诊察更为显著。一周之中禁食一天,对于他们亦将有莫大的助益。

饮食不节制往往是致病的原因。自然所最需要的,就是解除加在她身上的过重负担。许多疾病最有效的疗法,就是让病人禁食一两餐,使工作过度的消化器官有休息的机会。脑力劳动者吃几天水果往往会带来很大的缓解。很多时候短时间的完全禁食,继之以简单适量的饮食,会使病人借着自然的修复力而痊愈。节制饮食一两个月,会使许多病人认识到克己的道路乃是健康的道路。

在高烧的情况下,短期禁食可以降烧,并使水疗更有效果。但主治医生需要了解病人的实际状况,不可让他长期禁食,以致身体虚弱。高烧的时候,食物就会刺激和兴奋血液。但当体温降低时, 就当谨慎、明智地给病人补充营养。如果禁食太久,胃因渴望食物, 反而会产生热量,这时只有采用适量而良好的食物方可降低其热度。这可以供给身体一些运转的能量。如果病人明显想吃东西,即便是在发烧时,也当以适量的、简单的食物来满足他的欲望,这会比禁止他吃饭效果好些。当他的心情不再因食欲而焦灼时,他身心的机能就不会因少量简单的食物而过劳了。
