Confidence in God Through Trouble — May 26

Psalms 59-63

Psalms 59

1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; [b] Defend me from those who rise up against me. 365N 146.1

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, And save me from bloodthirsty men. 365N 146.2

3 For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord . 365N 146.3

4 They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine. Awake to help me, and behold! 365N 146.4

5 You therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the [c] nations; Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah 365N 146.5

6 At evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. 365N 146.6

7 Indeed, they belch with their mouth; Swords are in their lips; For they say, “Who hears?” 365N 146.7

8 But You, O Lord , shall laugh at them; You shall have all the [d] nations in derision. 365N 146.8

9 I will wait for You, O You [e] his Strength; For God is my [f] defense. 365N 146.9

10 [g] My God of mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies. 365N 146.10

11 Do not slay them, lest my people forget; Scatter them by Your power, And bring them down, O Lord our shield. 365N 146.11

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride, And for the cursing and lying which they speak. 365N 146.12

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, That they may not be; And let them know that God rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth. Selah 365N 146.13

14 And at evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. 365N 146.14

15 They wander up and down for food, And [h] howl if they are not satisfied. 365N 146.15

16 But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. 365N 146.16

17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy. 365N 146.17

Psalms 60

1 O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again! 365N 146.18

2 You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking. 365N 146.19

3 You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of [b] confusion. 365N 146.20

4 You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah 365N 146.21

5 That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me. 365N 146.22

6 God has spoken in His holiness: “I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem And measure out the Valley of Succoth. 365N 146.23

7 Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the [c] helmet for My head; Judah is My lawgiver. 365N 146.24

8 Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe; Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.” 365N 146.25

9 Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? 365N 146.26

10 Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? 365N 146.27

11 Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. 365N 146.28

12 Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. 365N 146.29

Psalms 61

1 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 365N 146.30

2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 365N 146.31

3 For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. 365N 146.32

4 I will abide in Your [b] tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah 365N 146.33

5 For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name. 365N 146.34

6 You will prolong the king’s life, His years as many generations. 365N 146.35

7 He shall abide before God forever. Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may [c] preserve him! 365N 146.36

8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may daily perform my vows. 365N 146.37

Psalms 62

1 Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. 365N 146.38

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my [a] defense; I shall not be greatly moved. [b] 365N 146.39

3 How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, Like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. 365N 146.40

4 They only consult to cast him down from his high position; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, But they curse inwardly. Selah 365N 146.41

5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my [c] expectation is from Him. 365N 146.42

6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be [d] moved. 365N 146.43

7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. 365N 146.44

8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 365N 146.45

9 Surely men of low degree are [e] a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor. 365N 146.46

10 Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them. 365N 146.47

11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. 365N 146.48

12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You [f] render to each one according to his work. 365N 146.49

Psalms 63

1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. 365N 146.50

2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. 365N 146.51

3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. 365N 146.52

4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. 365N 146.53

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with [a] marrow and [b] fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. 365N 146.54

6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. 365N 146.55

7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. 365N 146.56

8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. 365N 146.57

9 But those who seek my life, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth. 365N 146.58

10 They shall [c] fall by the sword; They shall be [d] a portion for jackals. 365N 146.59

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; Everyone who swears by Him shall glory; But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped. 365N 146.60
