Counsel #12 — The Church

Picture: Counsel #12 — The Church CCL 22.1

The Church is the worldwide network of people who believe Jesus Christ is God and their Savior. We're like a new kind of family, called out from the darkness of sin to follow Jesus. We gather to worship together, support each other, learn from the Bible, celebrate communion (remembering Jesus' sacrifice), serve others in need, and spread the good news of Jesus around the world. CCL 22.2

Our authority comes straight from Jesus, the living Word of God revealed in Scripture. He's the head of this family, adopting us as His children through a new covenant with Himself. The Church is Christ's body, a community united by faith where He's the Leader. CCL 22.3

The Bible also calls the Church the bride of Christ. He loved us so much He died for us, to make us holy and clean. When He returns in glory, He'll present the Church to Himself - a radiant bride, made up of faithful followers from all ages, whom He bought with His blood. We'll be without flaw or blemish, holy and blameless.[29] CCL 22.4

“So guard your yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.” Acts 20:28 ICB CCL 22.5

“The church is God’s appointed agency to save lost men and women. Its mission is to carry the gospel to the world.” Ellen White in Unlikely Leaders, p. 7 CCL 22.6

Reflect: How can you contribute more to the life and mission of your church family? CCL 22.7
