Counsel #10 — Three-Fold Sabbath Miracle
Picture: Counsel #10 — Three-Fold Sabbath Miracle CCW 87.1
The three-fold miracle of the manna during the Israelites' wilderness journey is a powerful reminder of the sacredness of the Sabbath and how to keep it holy.[123] The manna miracle demonstrated God's provision. A double portion fell on the sixth day, ensuring enough for the Sabbath. No manna fell on the Sabbath itself, emphasizing rest and reliance on God. Manna kept for the Sabbath remained fresh, while stocking up manna for further use on any other day than the 6th day was spoiled by worms and stank![124] CCW 87.2
“Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.” John 6:31, 32 NKJV CCW 87.3
“Every week during their long sojourn in the wilderness the Israelites witnessed a threefold miracle, designed to impress their minds with the sacredness of the Sabbath: a double quantity of manna fell on the sixth day, none on the seventh, and the portion needed for the Sabbath was preserved sweet and pure, when if any were kept over at any other time it became unfit for use.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 296 CCW 87.4
Reflect: The manna miracle strengthened the Israelites physically, as well as reminding them of the importance of Sabbath observance. In what ways does honoring the Sabbath strengthen you spiritually? CCW 87.5
