Counsel #6 — The Showbread
Picture: Counsel #6 — The Showbread CCW 51.1
Past the courtyard and inside the tabernacle was a special table. On it, twelve loaves of bread were continually placed in two neat stacks. These weren't like pagan offerings meant to feed a deity. Rather, they symbolized trust in God's provision for every day’s needs. In John 6:35, Jesus referred to this, calling Himself the “bread of life.” He taught that believing in and turning to Him ensures our needs are met, just as God provided for the children of Israel in the wilderness.[68] CCW 51.2
“And you shall set the showbread on the table before Me always.” Exodus 25:30 NKJV CCW 51.3
“The showbread was kept ever before the Lord as a perpetual offering. Thus it was a part of the daily sacrifice. It was called showbread, or ‘bread of the presence,’ because it was ever before the face of the Lord. It was an acknowledgment of man's dependence upon God for both temporal and spiritual food, and that it is received only through the mediation of Christ… Both the manna and the showbread pointed to Christ, the living Bread, who is ever in the presence of God for us.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 354.1 CCW 51.4
Reflect: When was the last time you trusted God to provide for your needs in a difficult time? CCW 51.5
