History shows that people are generally slow to accept truth that contradicts what they want to believe. For example, the Pharisees wanted to believe that Jesus was not the Messiah. King Saul wanted God to approve of his war plans. Eve wanted to believe she could eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil without dying. Because of this spiritual blindness, God has often used prophets to bring people’s attention to truths they should have known already.^[257] CCW 176.2

“Because they have not heeded My words, says the Lord, which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; neither would you heed, says the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:19 NKJV CCW 176.3
