Counsel #4 — Playing God

Picture: Counsel #4 — Playing God CSe 106.1

Christians believe in Divine sovereignty, viewing God as the ultimate Creator and Sustainer of life. Genetic engineering may be perceived as an attempt to usurp God’s role, leading to arrogance and disregarding the natural order—a balance within God’s divinely ordained universe. Altering the genetic makeup of organisms created by God could be seen as overstepping human bounds, demonstrating excessive pride and disrupting the ecosystem’s harmony. CSe 106.2

Some Christians stress the importance of accepting human limitations and embracing suffering as part of God’s will, citing Romans 5:3-5. Genetic enhancement may thus appear as a rejection of God’s design and purpose. Respecting life as a sacred gift from God underscores the belief that genetic manipulation undermines His role as Creator and Sustainer.[105] CSe 106.3

“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28 NKJV CSe 106.4

“God is the foundation of everything. All true science is in harmony with His works; all true education leads to obedience to His government. Science opens new wonders to our view; she soars high and explores new depths, but she brings nothing from her research that conflicts with divine revelation.” Ellen White in Mind, Character and Personality, vol. 2, p. 741 CSe 106.5
