Counsel #6 — Where Are We Going?
Picture: Counsel #6 — Where Are We Going? CSe 8.1
People who believe this life is all there is—that there is no heaven to gain or hell to avoid—struggle to find meaning. Knowing that war, disease, calamity, or violence could end life at any moment and that if they do survive to old age, the body will ultimately deteriorate and die brings a sense of hopelessness and futility to the person without Christ. CSe 8.2
On the other hand, the Christian has hope for the present and hope for the future! Hope for a new life of peace in Christ now, hope that God will ultimately bring suffering and sin and Satan to an end, and hope for eternal life with God (see John 3:16).[6] CSe 8.3
“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3 NKJV CSe 8.4
“The angels who lingered upon Olivet after Christ’s ascension repeated to the disciples the promise of His return: ‘This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.’” Ellen White in Our Father Cares, p. 348 CSe 8.5
Reflect: In what ways does the promise of Jesus’ return give you confidence about your ultimate destiny? CSe 8.6
