Counsel #9 — Biblical Creation

Picture: Counsel #9 — Biblical Creation CSe 34.1

The Bible describes creation as a specific event in the history of this planet. Genesis does not say whether the rest of the universe had already been created. The history of the great war between Christ and Satan implies that their controversy was well under way before our creation week. God no doubt could have prepared our planet for life, and created all the living things instantly, but according to the Bible He chose to spread the creation process over six days, adding a seventh-day for rest — establishing the pattern for seven-day weeks. CSe 34.2

In the Genesis account Adam and Eve were created as adults and appointed as guardians of the new creation. At the end of that first week a fully established ecosystem of plants, birds, fish, and animals were in place with rivers that watered the system. God had planned and created an ideal home for His created life forms, including the parents of the human family. The Bible timetable places this creation event a few thousand years ago.[33] CSe 34.3

“Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water.” Genesis 1:2 NET CSe 34.4

“The great God in his days of creation and day of rest, measured off the first cycle as a sample for successive weeks till the close of time.” Ellen White in Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, p. 90.1 CSe 34.5

Reflect: Knowing God never wearies and that perfect beings should not tire, why do you think God established a day of rest after creation? CSe 34.6
