Counsel #5 — Millions Of Accidental Encounters

Perhaps you’ve wondered if the laws of nature can do more than we think. Modern science actually understands those laws quite well. The laws of nature control basic processes like light, heat, energy, electricity, and mechanical principles. However, the laws of nature do not know what a protein is or how to make one. If there is no Creator, the first proteins would have formed strictly by chance interactions between carbon atoms and other atoms. The laws of nature do not know how to make a heart, a brain, a hand or a DNA molecule. Don’t believe this? Ask a physicist! When it comes to making a protein, a bone or a nerve cell, the laws of nature are completely blind and helpless.[29] The modern theory of evolution recognizes this and knows that evolution of an animal or of the simplest organic compounds would be a stumbling, chance process of millions of accidental encounters of atoms until some happen to stick together in the right way. “The book of nature and the written word shed light upon each other. They make us acquainted with God by teaching us something of the laws through which He works.” Ellen White in Education, p. 128.1 CSe 30.4
