Counsel #2 — Who Are We?

In one sense, every person finds elements of identity and meaning in gender, culture, race, and even in their education, career, and socioeconomic status. But for the Christian, what transcends all other components of our identity is that we are part of the family of God. When we accept Christ as Lord of our entire life, and Savior from our sin and its deadly results, He accepts us as His sons and daughters.[2] CSe 4.2
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12 NKJV CSe 4.3
“No distinction on account of nationality, race, or caste, is recognized by God. He is the Maker of all mankind. All men are of one family by creation, and all are one through redemption. Christ came to demolish every wall of partition, to throw open every compartment of the temple, that every soul may have free access to God…. In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free. All are brought nigh by His precious blood. (Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 2:13.)” Ellen White in Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 386 CSe 4.4
Reflect: In what ways would you feel differently about yourself if you really believed God considers you to be His son or daughter? CSe 4.5
