Counsel #4 — An Act Of Compassion

Environmental stewardship isn't just about protecting nature for nature's sake; it's a profound act of compassion. The negative impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are felt most acutely by those who have the least resources to cope. Pollution, water scarcity, and extreme weather events disproportionately harm poorer communities who lack the infrastructure and resources to adapt. By caring for the environment, we're not just protecting pristine landscapes, we're showing love for our fellow human beings, especially the most vulnerable. Just as we wouldn't neglect a struggling neighbor, we shouldn't neglect the well-being of those most impacted by our choices. Ultimately, environmental stewardship becomes an expression of respect for God's creation, which includes all humanity.[150] CSI 101.2
“If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.” Leviticus 25:35 NKJV CSI 101.3
“The poor especially are to be kindly treated.... Aid is to be given to the oppressed, and not one soul that bears the image of God is to be placed at the footstool of a human being. The greatest possible kindness and freedom are to be granted to the purchase of the blood of Christ.” Ellen White in Manuscript Releases, vol. 3, p. 37 CSI 101.4
