One way we can show respect for God is by honoring His name. Unfortunately, using profanity, especially taking God's name in vain, has become all too common in everyday life, from social media posts to movies and casual conversation. Many abbreviate "Oh My God" to OMG, treating it as a harmless expression of surprise. However, OMG is a flippant way of referencing the sacred name of Jehovah God. CLi 122.2
The third commandment (Exodus 20:7) goes beyond just false oaths and swearing. It emphasizes that we shouldn't use God's name lightly or carelessly, without acknowledging its immense significance. By treating God's name with reverence, we demonstrate our respect for Him and all He represents.[115] CLi 122.3
