Counsel #1 — Fashion And The Created Order

Picture: Counsel #1 — Fashion And The Created Order CLi 56.1

Fashion is part of the created order. Dress and fashion are either illustrative of God’s kingdom of light and goodness or of Satan’s kingdom of darkness and evil. When Adam and Eve sinned, they lost their robe of righteousness and light and covered their nakedness with clothes they fashioned from leaves (see Genesis 3:7).[50] This act was the first demonstration of humanity’s efforts to achieve righteousness by one’s own efforts (see Isaiah 59:6). However, the animals killed to clothe the Eden pair (see Genesis 3:21) pointed toward the ultimate redemption of repentant humanity through the blood of the slain Lamb of God (see John 1:29). “Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, ‘Take away the filthy garments from him.’ And to him He said, ‘See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.’” Zechariah 3:4 NKJV CLi 56.3

“The thought that the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us, not because of any merit on our part, but as a free gift of God, is a precious thought.” Ellen White in Lift Him Up, p. 156 CLi 56.4

Reflect: What kind of clothes promote Satan’s kingdom of darkness and what kind promote God’s kingdom of light and purity? CLi 56.5
