Counsel #7 — Jesus Is The Water Of Life!

In John 4:1-26, Jesus offers a profound metaphor during His encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. While the woman seeks physical water to quench her thirst, Jesus presents Himself as the Source of "living water," a spiritual wellspring offering eternal life. The well itself becomes symbolic, representing the temporary satisfaction of earthly pursuits. Jesus contrasts this with the lasting fulfillment found in Him.[118] The woman's initial misunderstanding highlights the difference between physical and spiritual thirst. Jesus, however, patiently guides her towards understanding, revealing His identity as the Messiah and the One who can truly satisfy the deepest longings of the human soul. CWe 106.2

“Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 NKJV CWe 106.3

“The refreshing water, welling up in a parched and barren land, causing the desert place to blossom and flowing out to give life to the perishing, is an emblem of the divine grace which Christ alone can bestow, and which is as the living water, purifying, refreshing, and invigorating the soul.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 412 CWe 106.4

Reflect: In what ways do you seek temporary satisfaction through "earthly pursuits" instead of the lasting fulfillment offered by Jesus? How could you become more aware of your spiritual thirst? CWe 106.5
