Counsel #1 — Taking Our Spiritual Temperature

Picture: Counsel #1 — Taking Our Spiritual Temperature CWe 32.1

When we go to our health care provider for a wellness check, our doctor may screen for disease and take various measurements to make sure we are healthy and thriving. CWe 32.2

What about spiritual wellness? How do we know if our relationship with God is thriving and growing, or shriveling and diseased? CWe 32.3

The first test of our spiritual wellness is determined by our priorities. What do we do in our downtime, when we’re not in class or working, studying, or sleeping? Do we seek first to know God in His Word, in prayer, in service and outreach to others? Or do we seek first our own pleasure—gaming, media, slothfulness, self-centered social media posting, and shallow perpetual texting?[36] CWe 32.4

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 NKJV CWe 32.5

“By what means, then, shall we determine whose side we are on? Who has the heart? With whom are our thoughts? Of whom do we love to converse? Who has our warmest affections and our best energies? If we are Christ’s, our thoughts are with Him, and our sweetest thoughts are of Him.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, p. 58 CWe 32.6
