Counsel #22 — The Holy Day

Picture: Counsel #22 — The Holy Day CWe 32.1

The Sabbath is the day God Himself set apart as holy--a day of rest and worship and a sacred time to pause from daily routines and focus on Him. Rooted in creation, where God rested on the seventh day, the Sabbath serves as a reminder not only that He created all things, but also of His sovereignty and provision. Observing the Sabbath isn’t just about physical rest - it’s about spiritual renewal and reconnecting with God. CWe 32.2

The Sabbath invites us to set aside distractions and reflect on God’s goodness, giving Him our undivided attention. It’s a time for prayer, worship, spending meaningful moments with loved ones and bringing a Sabbath blessing to others. Honoring this day helps us realign our priorities, refresh our spirits, and draw closer to God. In a world driven by busyness, the Sabbath teaches us to trust God as our Provider, reminding us that our worth isn’t tied to productivity. By keeping the Sabbath, we embrace God’s direct command[35] and find rest, peace, and spiritual renewal.[36] CWe 32.3

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2:2, 3 NIV CWe 32.4

“The Sabbath calls our thoughts to nature, and brings us into communion with the Creator.” Ellen White in The Desire of Ages, p. 281 CWe 32.5
