Counsel #27 — Pray for Increased Trust

Picture: Counsel #27 — Pray for Increased Trust CWe 29.1

A parent, overwhelmed by their child’s suffering, approached Jesus, pleading for help. When Jesus declared that all things are possible for those who believe, the father’s response was a raw and honest cry: "I believe; help my unbelief!"[32] This moment encapsulates the universal human struggle with faith. We often find ourselves caught between a desire to believe and the nagging presence of doubt. This parent’s prayer, a plea for strengthened belief, serves as a powerful model for our own spiritual journeys. Just as the parent sought Jesus’ intervention to bridge the gap between their faith and their doubts, we too can approach God in prayer, asking for an increase in trust and faith. We can acknowledge our uncertainties, our moments of wavering, and humbly request divine assistance in cultivating a deeper, more unwavering belief. This honest and vulnerable prayer invites God to work within us, transforming our hesitant faith into a confident, consistent assurance.[33] CWe 29.2

“And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’” Luke 17:5 NKJV CWe 29.3

“These doubts that bow down the soul we should each one bravely face, and tell the soul that we must conquer them at once.... examine them in the light of God’s Word, then talk them over with Jesus with His Word of promise in your hand, and pray for their removal.” Ellen White in That I May Know Him, p. 227 CWe 29.4
