Failure to control appetite spells SELFISHNESS. When we think of Jesus hanging mangled and bleeding on the cross, demonstrating the exact opposite of selfishness, it makes us want to preserve this body for which He died. In fact, because Jesus suffered and died for our sins, it is out of gratitude to Him that we present our bodies to God as a “living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1).[158] CWe 147.3
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV CWe 147.4
“The Christian today needs to keep strict guard over his appetite…. The physical, mental, and moral powers must be kept in the most perfect condition if he would obtain the approval of God.” Ellen G. White in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 6, p. 1089.7 CWe 147.5
