Counsel #2 — Appetite Of Destruction
Picture: Counsel #2 — Appetite Of Destruction CWe 146.1
Does God care what we eat or drink? The first temptation to humanity was over appetite.[155] Adam and Eve blew it—they gave in to the temptation to eat something that God had forbidden, and that choice had mega negative consequences. CWe 146.2
Satan’s first temptation to Jesus in the wilderness[156] also focused on appetite. As the “second Adam,” Jesus conquered that temptation—and offers us His power to conquer the lust of appetite ourselves.[157] CWe 146.3
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV
CWe 146.4
“The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character. The continual transgression of man for six thousand years has brought sickness, pain, and death as its fruits. And as we near the close of time, Satan’s temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome.” Ellen G. White in Counsels on Health, p. 574 CWe 146.5
Reflect: If disobedience to God through appetite separates us from our Life-giver, how important is it to daily make the best choices we can in what we eat? CWe 146.6
