Counsel #22 — Move it!

Prayer, reading the Bible, and spending time with other believers are essential for finding “peace of heart”—but there’s another element we often overlook: physical exercise. CSL 100.2

God created us to move. We’re not designed to be stuck in one place, physically or emotionally. When we take care of our bodies through movement, we’re actually honoring how He designed us—helping clear our mental and spiritual fog that keeps us from experiencing His peace. CSL 100.3

Exercise helps release endorphins, the brain’s natural stress and anxiety fighters. The rhythmic movements of walking, running, or swimming can be meditative. They help quiet our thoughts and pull us out of anxiety spirals. Being active outside—whether it’s hiking, biking, or just stretching in the sun—connects us with God’s creation, amplifying a sense of calm. CSL 100.4

And don’t overlook something as simple as deep breathing! It grounds us in the present moment, and makes space for God’s peace to settle in. Taking care of your body isn’t just healthy, it’s holy.31 CSL 100.5

“You were bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:20 NKJV CSL 100.6

““The whole body is designed for action, and unless the physical powers are kept in health by active exercise, the mental powers cannot long be used to their highest capacity.” Ellen White in Education, p. 207 CSL 100.7

Reflect: Are there obstacles in your life keeping you from exercising regularly? How might you tackle these obstacles to prioritize your peace of heart? CSL 100.8
