Counsel #25 — Time Well Spent

What if you were getting to know someone you really liked - texting them, spending time together, learning about their values — but the connection didn’t feel instant? Would you give up, or would you keep showing up, realizing that real relationships take time? Well, that’s what it’s like with God sometimes. CMH 107.2

In the beginning of building a relationship with God, it can seem as if nothing is happening. You spend time in prayer, read your Bible, and listen to sermons, but the bond just doesn’t feel strong. If that’s what you’re experiencing, don’t get discouraged. Just like spending time with someone in a romantic relationship, building a real bond with God requires consistency, patience, and intentionality. Like any meaningful relationship, God wants to be loved for who He is, not just for what He can give you. In Jeremiah 29:13, God promises that if you seek Him with everything you’ve got — mind, heart, body, soul — you’ll find Him. It’s not about quick feelings — it’s about the steady pursuit. Keep showing up. Keep trusting. The connection will grow. God sees your persistence in seeking Him, and He wants a relationship with you even more than you want one with Him!11 CMH 107.3
