During the formative years of 8-12, children are navigating the complexities of early adolescence, developing their sense of self, and forming lasting relationships. As Christian parents, you have a unique opportunity to guide your children towards a deeper understanding of God's love and truth while breaking any cycles of generational curses. CR 119.2
One of the most effective ways to break generational curses is by cultivating a healthy and loving home environment. This involves creating a safe and supportive space where your children feel valued and respected. Avoid yelling at your children, especially before bed or in the morning, as this can disrupt their sleep and mood, setting a negative tone for the day. Instead, strive to communicate calmly and respectfully, even when you're frustrated. Remember, you set the tone for your children, and your voice becomes their inner voice. By speaking life, love, bravery, kindness, and hope, you can help them develop a positive self-image and a strong sense of identity in Jesus.[112] CR 119.3
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 NKJV CR 119.4
“Ever encourage your children to reach a high standard in all their habits and tendencies. Be patient with their imperfections, as God is patient with you in your imperfections....” Ellen White in Child Guidance, p. 186 CR 119.5
Reflect: How well do you listen to your child's thoughts, feelings, and concerns? Are there ways you can improve your listening skills? CR 119.6
