Counsels on Relationships
Counsel #17 — Seeking Wise Counsel
Picture: Counsel #17 — Seeking Wise Counsel CR 115.1
Seeking counsel from a parent or trusted spiritual advisor is a wise step when navigating relationships. Their life experience and spiritual maturity can offer valuable insights and guidance, helping you discern whether a relationship is healthy to keep and aligns with God’s plan for your life. CR 115.2
Because your parents know your character and values on a deeper, personal level, they can offer a unique perspective when it comes to picking a partner to date. Likewise, a trusted spiritual advisor, such as a pastor or Christian mentor, can offer biblical wisdom, which will help you evaluate a relationship's spiritual foundation and emotional health. Seeking guidance from older individuals who’ve experienced life longer than you can also guide you in areas like conflict resolution, maintaining boundaries, and maintaining a relationship where Christ is the foundation. By obtaining counsel, you honor God’s call to walk with wisdom and accountability, ensuring your relationship compliments the plan He has for your life.11 CR 115.3
“Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” Proverbs 19:20 NIV CR 115.4
“The Christian evidence that we need, is found not in the experience of men, but in our Bibles. The Word of God is the man of our counsel; for it brings us down from age to age, bearing its testimony to the unchangeableness of the truth.” Ellen White in My Life Today , p. 25 CR 115.5
