Counsel #1 — Sexual Revolution Vs Purity

Picture: Counsel #1 — SEXUAL REVOLUTION VS PURITY CR 104.1

The sexual revolution of the 1960s (though seeded much earlier) challenged biblical codes of sexual behavior, promoting sexual activity outside of marriage as the norm. Now, people who uphold God’s ideal of sexual purity are seen as unusual. CR 104.2

In society’s current moral state, the Word of God calls us to partner with Jesus in purity and holiness, glorifying God in our bodies.[98] Sexual purity does not equal sexual abstinence. Purity is a mindset and a commitment to be loyal to God with our minds as well as our bodies, regardless of our past choices or present temptations. CR 104.3

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18 NIV CR 104.4

“God is purifying a people to have clean hands and pure hearts to stand before Him in the judgment. The standard must be elevated, the imagination purified; the infatuation clustering around debasing practices must be given up, and the soul uplifted to pure thoughts, holy practices. All who will stand the test and trial just before us will be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped, not participated in, the corruptions that are in the world through lust.” Ellen G. White in The Review and Herald, May 24, 1887 (1MCP 239) CR 104.5

Reflect: What is God trying to protect us from by asking us to remain sexually pure? CR 104.6
