Counsels on Relationships
Counsel #2 — Pray Together
Picture: Counsel #2 — Pray Together CR 89.1
Read a brief passage of the Bible together every day and discuss it. Maintain your own personal time with God in Bible study and prayer. The closer a couple comes to God, the closer they will come to each other.[84] CR 89.2
Pray together at least once a day in addition to mealtime prayers. Praise God and thank Him for specific blessings in your prayer. Remember to ask God to bless and protect your partner (and make sure you don’t passive aggressively preach to them while you’re praying). God promises to unify you as you pray together. CR 89.3
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 NKJV CR 89.4
“Religion is needed in the home. Only this can prevent the grievous wrongs which so often embitter married life. Only where Christ reigns can there be deep, true, unselfish love. Then soul will be knit with soul, and the two lives will blend in harmony. Angels of God will be guests in the home, and their holy vigils will hallow the marriage chamber.” Ellen White in The Adventist Home, p. 94 CR 89.5
Reflect: Do you pray with your spouse every day, and if so, is it precious bonding time with each other and Jesus? CR 89.6
