Counsel #24 — Transparency

Ever notice how the best things in life don’t have to be hidden? When something is good and right, you want to share it. The same goes for love. If you’re in a relationship that has to be kept secret, ask yourself why. Is it because deep down, you know the people who care about you wouldn’t approve? Or because it wouldn’t hold up under the light of truth? CR 171.2

True love doesn’t ask you to lie, sneak around, or ignore the wisdom of those God placed in your life. Think about how Isaac’s relationship with Rebekah began. Abraham didn’t leave anything to chance - he sent a trusted servant who prayed for God’s guidance, and Rebekah’s family was involved from the start. It wasn’t hidden or rushed. It was blessed, open, and guided by God. When love is from God, it doesn’t fear being known. If you’re finding yourself hiding or defending a relationship that others lovingly question, take a step back. Real love doesn’t thrive in secrecy! It walks confidently in the light with nothing to prove.[178] CR 171.3

“But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” John 3:21 NIV CR 171.4

“Everything that Christians do should be as transparent as the sunlight.” Ellen White in Radiant Religion, p. 43 CR 171.5

Reflect: Do your loved ones know about your relationship? If not, why? CR 171.6
