It’s easy to get caught up in the romantic side of love. The sweet texts and fun dates are great at first, but when it comes to choosing someone to build a life with, there’s more to look for than charm. You need someone who will work hard, take responsibility, and share life’s burdens with you. CR 167.2
This kind of person won’t let you carry all the weight alone. Whether it’s planning for the future, or simply getting through a hard week, they’ll know how to share the load with maturity and care. This pattern of diligence also includes managing money wisely. Do they budget? Can they save, or do they live outside of their means and have a habit of impulsive spending? How someone handles money says a lot about their discipline and long-term vision, so don’t overlook these traits! They’re signs of someone who’s ready to build something real, grounded, and lasting. When choosing a partner, don’t just ask, “Do they love me?” Ask, “Can we build something stable together?” True love is practical just as much as it’s emotional, and someone who’s diligent in all things is certainly someone worth considering doing life with, long-term.[174] CR 167.3
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5 NIV CR 167.4
“There must be a combination of meditation and diligent work.” Ellen White in To Be Like Jesus , p. 81 CR 167.5
Reflect: Do you prioritize wants over needs? CR 167.6
