Counsel #5 — Social Benefits Of Marriage

Picture: Counsel #5 — Social benefits of marriage CR 15.1

One of the most intimate and beautiful ways that God gives us to socialize is through marriage. Though some religious institutions promote celibacy as the ideal, God doesn’t; He wants us to experience the beauty of relationship like He does. Husbands and wives who take time every day to connect with one another in kindness, empathy, and love are reflecting His love and unselfishness through their marriages. CR 15.2

Choose, with your spouse, to enjoy each other’s company. Plan dates! Find something to do together (besides mindless screentime) that you both enjoy. Walking, gardening, or other outdoor activities, things at home like cooking, Bible study, games, art, or home improvement, going out for dinner, a drive, or other trips — be intentional about finding ways to connect with your spouse every day.[13] CR 15.3

“Marriage is honorable.” Hebrews 13:4 NKJV CR 15.4

“’Marriage is honourable’; it was one of the first gifts of God to man, and it is one of the two institutions that, after the fall, Adam brought with him beyond the gates of Paradise. When the divine principles are recognized and obeyed in this relation, marriage is a blessing; it guards the purity and happiness of the race, it provides for man’s social needs, it elevates the physical, the intellectual, and the moral nature.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 46 CR 15.5

Reflect: If you are married, what are you and your spouse’s favorite activities to do together? CR 15.6
