Watchful of Opportunities to Bring Joy, July 14

The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. Job 29:13. RRe 197.1

God calls not only for our gifts for the needy, but for our cheerful countenance, our hopeful words, our kindly hand-clasp. When Christ healed the sick, He laid His hands upon them. So should we come in close touch with those whom we seek to benefit. RRe 197.2

There are many from whom hope has departed. Bring back the sunshine to them. Many have lost their courage. Speak to them words of cheer. Pray for them. There are those who need the bread of life. Read to them from the word of God. Upon many is a soul-sickness which no earthly balm can reach nor physician heal. Pray for these souls, bring them to Jesus. Tell them that there is a balm in Gilead and a Physician there.—Christ’s Object Lessons, 418. RRe 197.3

We should lose no opportunity of performing deeds of mercy, of tender forethought and Christian courtesy, for the burdened and the oppressed. If we can do no more, we may speak words of courage and hope to those who are unacquainted with God, and who can be approached most easily by the avenue of sympathy and love. RRe 197.4

Rich and abundant are the promises made to those who are watchful of opportunities to bring joy and blessing into the lives of others.—Prophets and Kings, 327. RRe 197.5
