Abasuthisekanga ngokuthumelana amazwi wokwethuselana, kodwa bacina besebenzisa izikhali zempi. Bonke bazimisela ukuthenga izikhali lokubumba amabutho. Kungani ke, thina singahlupheki njengaye, ikakhulu nxa ukuhlupheka kuzabangela ukuthi sihlanjululwe? Ngakhoke bathandekayo, nxa ukufa kwami kuzaletha udumo kuye, thandazelani ukuthi kuze masinyane, njalo lokuthi anginike amandla okumelana lokuhlupheka kwami ngingathandabuzi. Ekufikeni kwakhe edolobheni laseConstance uHuss wanikwa ukukhululeka. Phezu kwesiqiniseko sokuphepha ayesinikwe ngumbusi, kwabekwa esinye esasivela kupapa. Kodwa kungakadluli isikhathi eside uMvuseleli wabotshwa bephula izithembiso zabo, ilizwi lokuthi abotshwe lalinikwe ngupapa labathungameli bebandla, wafakwa emgodini omnyama njalo ongcolileyo. Umbusi uSigismund owayengathandi ukwephulwa kwesithembiso sokuphepha esasinikwa umuntu, laye waphikisana lesigwebo ababemnike sona. Kodwa izitha zakhe zazizimisele kulokhu ababefuna ukukwenza. Nxa wayebuyela ngamaphupho ethempelini lasePrague lapho ayetshumayele khona, wabona upapa labathungameli bakhe bebandla bekhipha njalo besesula imfanekiso kaKrestu ayeyidwebe emdulini. “Iphupho leli langephula umoya”, kodwa ngosuku olulandelayo wabona abantu abanengi bebuyisela imifanekiso leyi njalo ngembala ekhanya kakhulu. Nxa basebeqedile ukuyibisela abantu laba bathi, ‘Manje ababuye opapa lababhishopi, ngeke besayesula imifanekiso leyi!’” Nxa wayesitsho iphupho lakhe wathi: “Ngimi emcabangweni lowu ngokukholwa, ukuthi umfanekiso kaKrestu ngekewesulwe emhlabeni. Nxa babemtshela futhi ukuthi aguqule amazwi akhe waphendula ekhangele ebantwini wathi: “Ngizakhangela ngabuphi ubuso izulu na? Ngibakhangele njani laba abantu engibatshumayeze ivangeli leqiniso na? Hatshi, ngikhetha ukuphakamisa usindiso lwabo okwedlula umzimba lowu, osumiselwe ukufa.” Izembatho lezi zasuswa sinye ngasinye, ababhishopi bemthethisa nxa babesenza inkonzo yabo njengenjwayelo. Ekucineni bafaka umqhele owenziwe ngephepha ekhanda lakhe, owawulemfanekiso yamadimoni phambili ulombhalo othi ‘Umhlamuki Omkhulu’. UHuss waphendula wathi: “Ngentokozo enkulu, ngizawugqoka lumqhele wehlazo, ngegama lakho Nkosi Jesu, wena owagqoka umqhele wameva ngenxa yami.” {GC 108.4} IEP 108.4
Nxa wayesegqokisiwe, abapristi bathi: “Manje sinikela umphefumulo wakho kuSathane.’ “UHuss waphakamisa amehlo akhe wabheka ezulwini, wathi “Khepha mina, ngibeka umphefumulo wami ezandleni zakho, Nkosi Jesu, ngoba wena ungihlengile.” — (Wylie, b.3, ch. 7). {GC 109.1} IEP 109.1
Ngemva kwalokho wabekwa ezandleni zabaphathi bedolobho bamqhuba bemusa endaweni yokubulawa. Ixuku labantu elikhulu lalilandela, kwakulamakhulu amabutho, labapristi kanye lababhishopi ngezembatho zabo ezidulayo, lezakhamizi zaseConstance. Nxa wayesebotshelwe endaweni yokutshiswa, sekusele ukuthi umlilo ubaswe, wanikwa njalo ithuba lokucina lokuthi aphike wonke amaphutha akhe. “Amaphutha aphi” watsho uHuss, “okumele ngiwaphike? Ngiyazi ukuthi angilacala lelilodwa. Ngicela ukuthi uNkulunkulu abengumfakazi walokho engikubhalileyo lalokho engikutshumayelileyo, ngenjongo yokuhlenga imphefumulo esonweni lasekufeni, ngokunjalo ngizafakaza ngegazi lami ngenkulu intokozo, ukuthi kuliqiniso lokhu engikubhalileyo ngabuya ngakutshumayela.” (Ibid., b. 3, ch.7). Ababulali bakhe banakana ngeze ukuthi basebe suse impande zeqiniso ayekade elitshumayela. Kabazange bacabange ukuthi umlotha lowu ababewuphosele emfuleni wawuzakuba yinhlanyelo ephoselwe emazweni wonke omhlaba, lokuthi endaweni ezazingakazakali izithelo ezinengi zazizathela njengabofakazi beqiniso. Ilizwi elalikhulumile phambi komhlangano eConstance lalivuse abantu abanengi ababezamela iqiniso esikhathini esizayo. UHuss wayesedlulile kodwa iqiniso ayelifele lalingeke life. Isibonelo sakhe sokukholwa lokunganyikinyeki sasizaqinisa abanye ukuthi labo bamele iqiniso, phambi kochuku njalo lokufa uqobo lwakho. Ukubulawa kwakhe kwakubonise uchuku lobubi beRoma phambi komhlaba wonke. Izitha zeqiniso loba nje zazingazi, zazihambise ivangeli elifanayo ababezama ngeze ukulitshabalalisa. {GC 110.1} IEP 110.1

UJerome nxa wayeqeda ukuvalelisa uHuss, ekusukeni kwakhe esiya emhlanganweni wamnika amandla wamthembisa ukuthi nxa kwakungenzeka abesengozini yena ngokwakhe wayezakuza ezomsiza. Nxa wayesizwa ngokubotshwa kukaHuss, uJerome wazimisela ukugcwalisa isithembiso sakhe. Engatholanga isiqiniseko sokuvikelwa wasuka walubhekisa eConstance ehamba lomunye owayemqhuba. Wathi efika wananzelela ukuthi wayesezifake engozini njalo kwakungela ndlela ayengakhulula ngayo uHuss. Wazama ukubaleka ebuyela ekhaya kodwa wabotshwa endleleni wabiselwa emuva ebotshwe ngamaketane njalo ehanqwe lixuku lamabutho. Ekumeni kwakhe kwakuqala phambi komhlangano, imizamo yakhe yonke yokuphendula amacala ayewethesiwe, yayihlangana lamazwi abantu ayesithi, “Kayetshiswa laye! Akayetshiswa!”- (Bonnechose, vol. 1, p. 234). Waphoselwa emgodini, ebotshwe ngamaketane okwabangela ukuthi abesebuhlungwini obukhulu, njalo wayephiwa isinkwa lamanzi kuphela. Wabizwa ukuthi azothonisiswa, wanikwa ithuba lokuthi akhethe ukufa kumbe ukuphika konke ayekholelwa kikho. Ukufa ekuqaleni kokubotshwa kwakhe kwakuzabonakala njengo zwelo kuye, nxa kwakuqathaniswa lobuhlungu njalo lochuku ayedlule kulo ejele, kodwa ngalesi isikhathi engasela mandla ngenxa yomkhuhlane, lokuhlupheka kwasejele, lobuhlungu bokungazi okwakuzamehlela kusasa, lokwehlukana kwakhe labangane, njalo lokwephulwa kwenhliziyo yakhe ngenxa yokufa kukaHuss, isibindi sika Jerome saphela, wavuma ukulandela lokhu okwakutshiwo ngamalunga omhlangano lowu. Wazinikela ukuthi wayezalandela imfundiso yebandla laseRoma, wamukela isinqumo somhlangano sokuthi imfundiso kaWyciffe njalo lekaHuss yayingalunganga “ngaphandle kwamaqiniso angcwele” ababewafundisile. - (Ibid, vol. 2, p. 141). {GC 111.1} IEP 111.1

Wacabanga isibindi esasiboniswe nguHuss, wasiqathanisa lesinqumo sakhe sokuphika iqiniso. Wacabanga njalo ngeNkosi ayezinikele ukuthi uzayisebenzela, eyakhetha ukufa esiphambanweni ngenxa yakhe. Ngaphambi kokuphika kwakhe iqiniso, wayethole ukududuzwa ekuhluphekeni kwakhe, ngoba wayelesiqiniseko sokuthi uNkulunkulu wayekuthokozelela ukumela kwakhe iqiniso ayekwenzile, kodwa manje ukuzisola lokuthandabuza kwasekuhlukumeza umphefumulo wakhe. Wayekwazi ukuthi kwakusekhona okunye okwakumele akuphike ukuze kubelokuthula phakathi kwakhe labathungameli bebandla. Indlela ayeseyingenile yayizaphelela kuphela ekuphikeni lonke iqiniso. Isinqumo sakhe saba sinye, ukuthi abalekele ukuhlukunyezwa okwesikhatshana wayengasoke akwenze nxa kwakusitsho ukuthi aphike iNkosi yakhe. {GC 111.2} IEP 111.2

UJerome wala ukuvuma ukuhlukunyezwa okunje. “Lingivalele entolongweni eyesabekayo okwamalanga angamakhulu amathathu lamatshumi amane, phakathi kwengcekeza, lephunga, endaweni umuntu angeke afune lutho, manje selingiletha phambi kwenu, ngokufuna ukuvikela izitha zami lifuna ukwala ukuthi ngikhulume...Nxa lingamadoda akhaliphileyo njengokutsho kwenu, njalo liyikukhanya kwezwe, nanzelelani ukuthi alicini lisonela ukulunga. Kuye kwagcwaliseka isithembiso sikaNkulunkulu kubafundi bakhe bakuqala esithi: “Lizakuholelwa phambi kwababusi lamakhosi ngenxa yami...Nxa belinikela, lingakhathaleli ukuthi lizakhuluma kanjani lokuthi lizakuthini, ngoba lizakunikwa ngalesosikhathi lokho elizakukhuluma. Ngoba kakusini elikhulumayo, kodwa nguMoya KaYihlo okhuluma kini.” (Mathewu 10: 18-20). {GC 112.3} IEP 112.3
