CHAPTER FIFTY: The Two-Horned “Beast” of Revelation 13
The interpretation developed by the Sabbatarian Adventists concerning the symbolic two-horned “beast” from the earth, of Revelation 13:11-18, merits special attention. On this the Adventists differed from many others. But here, too, lies a long background of antecedents developing over a course of centuries before Seventh-day Adventists entered the picture. Application to the New World instead of the Old World and to a Protestant instead of a papal power, had been suggested by a succession of thoughtful expositors, both in Britain and America, long before the Millerite movement arose. John N. Andrews, Adventist historian of the Sabbath, was one of the first, at this time, to develop this exposition in well-rounded form. We pause to consider Andrews first, and then turn to this intriguing symbol. PFF4 1093.1
