Two Uniforms Recognized In the Levitical Law
• Isaiah 61:10. Garments are a symbol of Christ’s righteousness. BHB 169.4
• Isaiah 64:6. Our own righteousness is as filthy rags. BHB 169.5
• Deuteronomy 22:11. The Israelites were forbidden to make a garment of two different kinds of material, thus teaching that self-righteousness could not be mingled with the robe of Christ’s righteousness. BHB 169.6
• Leviticus 13:47-57. If the leprosy was in the “warp or in the woof” of a garment, it must be burned. No one allowed to wear a garment that endangered the lives of others. Leprosy a type of sin. The most insidious sin is pride, which caused the downfall of Lucifer. Ezekiel 28:17. BHB 169.7
The dress of the world is made to foster pride. Garments of that kind should not be worn by Christians. Professed Christians may say that the garments are given them; and that they are not proud, and think there is no harm in wearing them; but there is contagion in the garments, and they may be a stumbling-block to others, and cause their spiritual death. Testimonies for the Church 4:640. BHB 169.8
• Leviticus 13:58. If the garment can be altered so as not to represent the world, it is safe for the Christian to wear it. BHB 169.9
• Numbers 15:39. A Christian’s dress should remind him of God’s law. BHB 170.1
• Genesis 34:1, 2. Jacob allowed Dinah to mingle with the young people of the world. BHB 170.2
• Genesis 34:4-31. Disgrace and shame followed. BHB 170.3
• Genesis 35:1-4. Then Jacob had his household change their garments and take off their ornaments. Testimonies for the Church 4:617. BHB 170.4
If Dinah had dressed as God designs His people to dress, she would not have been invited to mingle with the princes and princesses of the land. God designs the plain dress of His people to be a safeguard against many snares of the enemy. Plainly dressed young people escape many temptations that come to those who wear the uniform of the world. Testimonies for the Church 3:376. BHB 170.5
• Joshua 7:21. Men as well as women like worldly attire. BHB 170.6
• Matthew 23:5. Jesus reproved the priests for catering to pride. BHB 170.7
