Teachers and Students

• 1 Samuel 19:20. A leader was appointed to have charge of the schools. BHB 147.9

• 2 Kings 2:3; 1 Samuel 10:12. The leaders were called masters or fathers, and the students were called sons. BHB 147.10

• 1 Kings 18:4; 2 Kings 4:43. The schools were sometimes large. BHB 147.11

• 1 Kings 18:4. The students of the schools of the prophets endured persecution and death rather than compromise the cause of God. Prophets and Kings, 126. BHB 147.12

• 1 Kings 22:6-14. When the whole company was swayed by the king, there was yet one prophet true to principle. Prophets and Kings, 195, 196. BHB 147.13

• Psalm 74:5. A man’s fame consisted in his ability to perform active labor. BHB 148.5

• 2 Kings 4:38-43. The simple vegetarian diet was another interesting feature connected with the schools. BHB 148.6

• 1 Kings 18:4. This simple diet prepared them to face persecution, when they were hidden in the cave, and sustained on bread and water. BHB 148.7

• Isaiah 33:14-17. Before the coming of the Lord, some will be prepared in the same way to pass through a similar experience. BHB 148.8

• 2 Kings 2:3-5. The students were in such close touch with the Lord that they knew when Elijah would be translated. Prophets and Kings, 225, 226. BHB 148.9

• 2 Kings 2:15. They recognized the presence of the spirit of God, and paid respect to the one guided by the Spirit. BHB 148.10

• 2 Kings 2:23, 24. Surrounded by those who openly ridiculed the good, these young men developed Christian characters. BHB 148.11

• 1 Samuel 10:5. Sacred music was taught; the students were instructed to use various musical instruments. Patriarchs and Prophets, 593-602. BHB 149.1
