The Time Prophecy Unfolds

Another vision threw further light on the events of the future. At the close of this vision Daniel heard “a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to the one that spoke, ‘For how long is the vision?’” Daniel 8:13, RSV. The answer was given: “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Verse 14. SS 286.3

Filled with perplexity, he sought for the relation sustained by the seventy years’ captivity to the 2300 years that should elapse before the cleansing of God's sanctuary. When the prophet heard the words, “The vision ... shall be for many days,” he fainted “and was sick certain days.” He records of his experience: “Afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.” Verses 26, 27. SS 286.4

The prophecies of Jeremiah were so plain that he understood “the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.” Daniel 9:2. SS 287.1
