III. Webb-Falling of Stars Precursor of Advent

Brief mention should be made of JOHN WEBB (1687-1750), educated at Harvard and pastor at Boston. He was occasionally preacher of election sermons. In his Practical Discourses (1726) he lays stress on the harbingers of the coming day of judgment, with a call to solemn preparation of heart therefore. (Matthew 24:42.) After specifying the “Fore-runners and the Evidences of its near approach,” Webb cites the prophesied falling of the stars, recorded in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, that will precede it. 23 The judgment will come as the climax in the prophetic line portrayed in Daniel 7. 24 And the second advent with inconceivable glory and power will be attended by the resurrection of the dead. This is the great prophesied end. 25 PFF3 171.3
