Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ — November 22
Ephesians 3-4
Ephesians 3
1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— 365N 326.1
2 if indeed you have heard of the [a] dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 365N 326.2
3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 365N 326.3
4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 365N 326.4
5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 365N 326.5
6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 365N 326.6
7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 365N 326.7
8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 365N 326.8
9 and to make all see what is the [b] fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things [c] through Jesus Christ; 365N 326.9
10 to the intent that now the [d] manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the [e] principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 365N 326.10
11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 365N 326.11
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. 365N 326.12
13 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 365N 326.13
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father [f] of our Lord Jesus Christ, 365N 326.14
15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 365N 326.15
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 365N 326.16
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 365N 326.17
18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 365N 326.18
19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 365N 326.19
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 365N 326.20
21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. 365N 326.21
Ephesians 4
1 I, therefore, the prisoner [a] of the Lord, [b] beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 365N 326.22
2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 365N 326.23
3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 365N 326.24
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 365N 326.25
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 365N 326.26
6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in [c] you all. 365N 326.27
7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 365N 326.28
8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” 365N 326.29
9 (Now this, “He ascended” —what does it mean but that He also [d] first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 365N 326.30
10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 365N 326.31
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 365N 326.32
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the [e] edifying of the body of Christ, 365N 326.33
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 365N 326.34
14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 365N 326.35
15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 365N 326.36
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. 365N 326.37
17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as [f] the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 365N 326.38
18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 365N 326.39
19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 365N 326.40
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 365N 326.41
21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 365N 326.42
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 365N 326.43
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 365N 326.44
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. 365N 326.45
25 Therefore, putting away lying, “ Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. 365N 326.46
26 “Be angry, and do not sin” : do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 365N 326.47
27 nor give [g] place to the devil. 365N 326.48
28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. 365N 326.49
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary [h] edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 365N 326.50
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 365N 326.51
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, [i] clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 365N 326.52
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. 365N 326.53
