NKJV Bible in 365 Days
Birth, Boyhood, and Baptism of Jesus — October 2
Luke 2-3
Luke 2
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 365N 275.1
2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 365N 275.2
3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 365N 275.3
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 365N 275.4
5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed [a] wife, who was with child. 365N 275.5
6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 365N 275.6
7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a [b] manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. 365N 275.7
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 365N 275.8
9 And [c] behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 365N 275.9
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 365N 275.10
11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 365N 275.11
12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a [d] manger.” 365N 275.12
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 365N 275.13
14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill [e] toward men!” 365N 275.14
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 365N 275.15
16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 365N 275.16
17 Now when they had seen Him, they made [f] widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 365N 275.17
18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 365N 275.18
19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 365N 275.19
20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. 365N 275.20
21 And when eight days were completed [g] for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus , the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. 365N 275.21
22 Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 365N 275.22
23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord ” ), 365N 275.23
24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” 365N 275.24
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 365N 275.25
26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 365N 275.26
27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 365N 275.27
28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: 365N 275.28
29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; 365N 275.29
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 365N 275.30
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 365N 275.31
32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” 365N 275.32
33 [h] And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 365N 275.33
34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 365N 275.34
35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” 365N 275.35
36 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; 365N 275.36
37 and this woman was a widow [i] of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 365N 275.37
38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to [j] the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 365N 275.38
39 So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. 365N 275.39
40 And the Child grew and became strong [k] in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. 365N 275.40
41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 365N 275.41
42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 365N 275.42
43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And [l] Joseph and His mother did not know it; 365N 275.43
44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 365N 275.44
45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 365N 275.45
46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 365N 275.46
47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 365N 275.47
48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 365N 275.48
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 365N 275.49
50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. 365N 275.50
51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was [m] subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. 365N 275.51
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. 365N 275.52
Luke 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 365N 275.53
2 [a] while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 365N 275.54
3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, 365N 275.55
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord ; Make His paths straight. 365N 275.56
5 Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; 365N 275.57
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ” 365N 275.58
7 Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood [b] of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 365N 275.59
8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 365N 275.60
9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” 365N 275.61
10 So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” 365N 275.62
11 He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” 365N 275.63
12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 365N 275.64
13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.” 365N 275.65
14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not [c] intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.” 365N 275.66
15 Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, 365N 275.67
16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 365N 275.68
17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” 365N 275.69
18 And with many other exhortations he preached to the people. 365N 275.70
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his [d] brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, 365N 275.71
20 also added this, above all, that he shut John up in prison. 365N 275.72
21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 365N 275.73
22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” 365N 275.74
23 Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, 365N 275.75
